    Mounting fuse control system failed!

I just received new updates for F8 which I installed. SELinux is set to Enforcing. When I reboot I get Mounting fuse control system failed! and when I look into the message log I see:

Mar 13 18:38:16 localhost kernel: fuse init (API version 7.9)
    Mar 13 18:38:16 localhost kernel: audit(1205444296.196:4): avc: denied { mount } for pid=2182 comm="mount" name="/" dev=fusectl ino=1 scontext=system_u:system_r:mount_t:s0 tcontext=system_u:object_r:unlabeled_t:s0 tclass=filesystem
    Mar 13 18:38:16 localhost kernel: audit(1205444296.197:5): avc: denied { mount } for pid=2182 comm="mount" name="/" dev=fusectl ino=1 scontext=system_u:system_r:mount_t:s0 tcontext=system_u:object_r:unlabeled_t:s0 tclass=filesystem

To me it seems that SELinux got problems with Fuse after the update. Is there any way around?
What is Fuse good for anyway? Do I need it?

    Hi thunderogg,

I've experienced the same thing. Someone has already reported it to Bugzilla:

OK. Thanks. So it is wise for people not to update Fuse for the time being!

Yes, I agree. I must admit that I'm also not sure what fuse does.
    Code:
    $ rpm -q --whatrequires fuse
    ntfs-3g-1.1120-1.fc8
I'm Windows-free, so I guess that it doesn't really affect me!

Quick fix (temp) is to do this (make a temp selinux policy)

    grep mount /var/log/messages | audit2allow -M mymount

    semodule -i mymount.pp

When the fix comes then remove the policy...

    semodule -r mymount

Yeah, it's why I'm using Linux in the first place. Anything that has to do with M$ can go.

Oh, I will try the fix later, Thanks!!

I Am Similarly Getting This But Only About Half Of The Time.
I Cannot Decide Whether To Try 105547111's Helpful Suggestions.
Will I Really Know When To Remove The Temporary Policy ?
With Intermittent Bugs That Are Not Widespread (no Noticeable Effect
At All Yet), It May Be Difficult To Spot When The Fix Arrives If
There Should Be No Corresponding Announcement.
Seems I May Have To Wait For A Prolonged Period Of
Problem Free Boots Before The Temporary Policy Removal.

Fuse is not about windows compatibility. It allows the creation of a userspace file system interfaces. 'sshfs' is a fuse file system, so is ntfs-3g. There are dozens more in sourceforge - fuse file systems that let you mount tarballs, databases, web files, ftp file, encryption in userspace etc.

If you don't need it - fine, but it has nothing to do with windows compat, aside from the fact the there are some fuse implementations for ntfs and smb.

OK, Thanks for teaching a newbie. I still have no idea what it's good for. But it's good to know it's not connected to MS.

I apologise if I created the wrong impression. I did however say that I don't know what fuse is used for. In my case, on my machine, this is the result I get from the rpm database.
    Code:
    $ rpm -q --whatrequires fuse
    ntfs-3g-1.1120-1.fc8
I always look forward to updates, even when things go wrong. It forces me to delve into things that I didn't even know existed. I have backups, 2 Live CDs (different distros) and Fedora 7 installed on another hard drive. Bring on the updates!

Have you try to disable SELinux anyway. I think Fedora 8 packed with ability to mounting ntfs partition automatically.

Way wrong. There are about 30 different fuse file systems in existence. and about 6 or 8 of these have corresponding Fedora packages. Fuse is a really nice feature and you will probably use it someday even if you never touch another redmond product. Encrypted fuse file system and the sshfs are seeing a good bit of activity.

    # rpm -qa fuse*

    I know.

I got a new cell phone (mobile) recently, that uses obex, and I saw that fuse was "quite a bit in there". At that stage (I'm Windows-free....), it didn't get used for much else on my box.
