High CPU useage- need help to understand top

My CPU usage runs in between 98-100 most of the time. running top shows the following line as the most probable culprit but I am not sure what it means and have not had much luck searching for an answer;

Output;
1908 lp 20 0 4768 1112 892 R 54.5 0.2 889:32.61 usb

I have found the system to be a bit sluggish- Abiword is very stuttery when scrolling through a document for example.

For further information I am running Fedora 8 on a Dell Inspiron 6000 with a 1.3Ghz processor and 495Mib of memory.

Thanks in advance for any help

Marc
