Question Memory Utilization? Please Share Yours So That I Can Figure Mine Out...

Hello All.

I was just wondering how everybody else's resources were doing (and trying to solve mine at the same time).

It seems that even when I don't have any programs open, the system monitor is reporting that I still have 40% of my 1GB RAM being used (which is about 400MB of RAM). I don't remember what it was like on the other distributions that I've tried, but I remember that they didn't seem so resource hungry.

What I'm after is seeing if this is a normal thing. If it isn't, then I'm going to try and figure out what's happening. If it is, then I'm still going to try and optimize it. I would hate to see Fedora on a machine with only 256MB RAM, and maybe even one with 512MB RAM if 400MB is what it takes to run Fedora 8 with gnome.

Thanks for any help in advance.
