I have a bit of a strange one here. I had my FC8 working fine and when I plugged my iPod, USB stick or put in a CD, they came up automatically on the Desktop and could browse through the contents no prob.
I then installed XP which (as we all know, annoyingly) deleted Grub. I was then able to reinstall Grub to get my system back to dual boot.....phew.
However, now, none of those devices pop up when I plug them in and although I can mount them manually, or even automatically by editing /etc/fstab, I find it annoying that they are not just there on my Desktop.
What has happened here and has anyone else witnessed this. My /etc/fstab is below with the iPod line removed.
/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 / ext3 defaults 1 1
LABEL=/boot /boot ext3 defaults 1 2
tmpfs /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
devpts /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0
sysfs /sys sysfs defaults 0 0
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
/dev/sdb /media/iPod auto noauto,user,rw 0 0
/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol01 swap swap defaults 0 0
My iPod typically shows up as /dev/sdb
Curiously, now when I run GParted, it shows the iPod as having one big unallocated partition instead of the usual 3 partitions (2 small & 1 large) and now it says 'Disk Mode' at the top. OK, although I can still browse all the files, how could this have happened.
Does anyone have a copy of their /etc/fstab where the things just come up when they are plugged in so I can compare.
