pup stalls on update

i moved up to FC8 as soon as it was released and i'm struck by the great and many changes over FC7 (not that 7 was a bad release) ... but i have had one trouble that has failed to resolve itself... when pup is run to update software it goes to the "Retrieving Software Information" the bar fills... then nothing happens... days pass... and still that bar sits untouched.

out of habit i tend to mess with as many things as possible when i recieve a new release... i also have a tendency to re-install clean whenever i chose... the few problems i've had with this release are rarely so consistent (i attribute that to my need to play with all the features and try numerous packages of software) but the updater has rarely no had this problem despite the many fresh times i've used FC8.

anyone else having this problem?
