I am olmost certain, I won't find any help about this here, but is there way to configure samba to act as a windows update server or proxy without having a dedicated windows running?

I don't think so. Microsoft's Software Update Services only runs on Windows 2000 and 2003 server. Not only that, this new Windows Update Services sounds even more tightly integrated with Windows.

You're not alone in this request, however.
