Hello!
I have just finished setting up a SSH server at home so that I can do VNC sessions through the encrypted tunnel to my home desktop when I am on the road with my laptop. Everything went perfectly and all is up and running to my satisfaction except for one thing:
When I load the desktop (gnome) on the remote machine through VNC viewer (mac version) a bunch of the desktop applets fail to load. For instance, i cannot access the volume control, and the clock applet doesnt load...even the applet that deals with minimized items to the bottom tray does not load. Other than the lack of these applets, the desktop looks identical to my usernames desktop at home. When I first login via VNC it asks me if i want to remove the applets from my configuration file since they are not loading. Of course I dont want to do that, because the applets work perfectly at home and I like to have them running! I really dont know what it is about the specific applets that cause them not to be loaded, but it is consistently the same ones. Especially problematic is the minimization applet...because now, when i minimize an application I cannot bring it back up!
Has anyone else had this problem and discovered a workaround?
Thanks for any ideas and input!
Brian
