Display Settings

Just a quick question to satisfy my curiosity. When I try to change my display settings I get the message that I must log out and restart x in order for the new settings to take effect. When I do log out and restart x my settings are not changed. Am I missing something? I am doing this using KDE and going through Administration-Display -log in as root.

It would probably be useful to post any error (EE) or warning (WW), or possibly not implemented (NI) information from the /var/log/Xorg.0.log. You might also find it useful to make your own copy of /etc/X11/xorg.conf, do the configuration you are trying to do, and then use diff to see what changes were actually made to the file.

Likely the settings you are trying to use need to be included in /etc/X11/xorg.conf for them to work.
