mmcblk0: error 1 sending read/write command

I have an hp dv8000z. I tried putting an sd card into the reader, and I get this (along with a load average of approxiimate infinity):

Jun 28 10:26:41 nbecker4 kernel: mmcblk0: error 1 sending read/write command
Jun 28 10:26:41 nbecker4 kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev mmcblk0, sector 0

Any hints?
