CD Player ( aka gnome-cd) permissions problem

If I start gnome-cd from the command line I get:

** (gnome-cd:3436): WARNING **: ERROR: Could not open resource for writing.

and the program starts, sees the CD and shows the tracks but when requested
to play a track *nothing* happens (ie the slider does not advance)

If I su to root and run the player then it works...

So,,,There is some file somewhere that needs user mode writability but I cannot
seem to find the rascal....

Anyone know how to solve the problem?

I created another user account and gnome-cd worked right off the bat.

Sooo, it seems like I have a malconfigured "dot" file, So far I have not
been able to find out which one of the rascals is causing the problem...

I finally gave up and moved my home directory, Logged in as root
deleted my account and then recreated the rascal.

I also went to /tmp and deleted everything associated with my username,

I rebooted and logged into my account and moved all of the "regular" files
and folders back to my home directory and selected dot files. (nothing
that related to gnome...)

CD Player now functions....
