Question NFS4 Performance? (FC2)

Fedora Core 2 starts NFS version 4 deamons. This takes very long during boot. Are they worth it? Do they perform significally faster than - say - nfs under red hat 9? Or should I turn them off? Do I automatically use nfs3 when I turn them off?
