Updates blocked

It started yesterday. There were two updates announced, but when I attempted to install them the process got to the "Retrieving update information" and followed with a message that it was unable to get the information. The "suggestion" was a problem with Internet, but it was working - and I am using it to write this. This morning there are 4, but the same thing happens.
And I am afraid that I have no idea as to where to begin to find a solution... so I turn to you.
