anyone tried installing lprng on FC1?

I've been working at this for some time now... I'm using fedora core 1 and it looks like cups is the default printing system. I've been trying to get switched to LPRng-3.8.27 but I get a dependency error requesting libcom_err.so.3.

libcom_err.so.3 comes with a package called krb5-libs-1.2.7-10. Fedora uses the newer krb5-libs-1.3.1-6 which uses an older version of libcom_err (libcom_err.so.2.1).

I'm not sure downgrading the library is the answer. anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks for any help!

hi guys,

I have the same problem installing LPRNG on FC5. I have a printer driver which relies on lprng and cannot get it to work :-(

We've been using LPRng 3.8.28 on FC3 for a year, and are now upgrading to FC5. Rather surprisingly (to me at least) it doesn't "just work". Even simple things like the filter trying to cat to /dev/lp0 fails with write errors, and using a pipe for the printcap doesn't work any more.

All the problems seem to be related to stdin/out/pipe problems. Has anyone got LPRng working for FC5. We have a fair investment in LPRng, so moving to CUPs will be a pain.

Neil
