OK, I'm finaly ready to upgrade to FC5!

I am currently running FC4 installed on SATA HD's. I have three SATA HD's, a 160GB, and two 400GB setup as a single Volume Group. There are two Logical Volumes "/" and "/video". I want to make sure that the data in these volumes remains accessible after I upgrade to FC5.

What I planned to do is install a new 80GB IDE HD and do a fresh install of FC5 to this drive. The other drives will still be in the system as I do this.

My question is, will FC5 automagically recognize the existing Volume Group and its associated Logical Volumes and will I be able to access all the data that lives there?

Well if you hold on for about 4 weeks or so, you'll be able to upgrade to FC6 barring any hiccups in the schedule.......BTW it is not recommended to upgrade from one revision
to another so a backup and full install to FC6 would be a better solution.

2.6.17-1.2630.fc6, this is FC6T2, FC6T3 is due out in a day or so......

I would be doing a full (fresh) install of FC5 on the new IDE hard drive as I stated in the last post. My old drives containing my FC4 install would still be there but they would not be targeted for the install.

As for FC6, I run MythTV on this system and the 64-bit version of the OS. It might be a while after FC6 is released before the 64-bit package for MythTV is available for it.

Good question as you have the bootloader for FC4 on one physical drive and the FC5 bootloader and a different physical drive. It might take some manual manipulation to get it to work.
