How do i update Clamav

Hi

i have downloaded and installed clamav and have been able to scan folders and files on my computer however i am struggling to get the virus files updated . I have had a look through the clam av user manual and to be honest it is as clear as mud to me. What should i have to type into the command line to get the virus files updated . Is there a easy to understand walkthrough with the setting up of it.
Thanks

'Freshclam" PS, prior to running 'freshclam' you'll have to gedit /etc/freshclam.conf and put a '#' in front of the word 'example'. Why they don't do that for you is anyone's guess!

As a follow on to this i now need to be able to set up scanning of e-mail messages i receive. The programme i use for this is Thunderbird. I cant find any options for integrating clam av into this ....Do i need a separate programme ?

Well, I'm hardly an expert on this, but I just periodically 'clamscan -r /home/bob/.thunderbird'

Hmm ive just realised that when i scan my home folder the print-out only lists the files in it NOT the folders or their subfolders and contents. I wondering now if i have to scan each folder individually.!

That '-r' is what tells it to scan recursively and it bores down through every folder and file. Hint: You've got a TON of them in /home!!!!

Actually, I think Klam-AV for KDE has a graphical interface. I'm not in Fedora right now (gasp!!!) so I can't double-check yum; but here's the main page for it: http://klamav.sourceforge.net/klamav....php/Main_Page

Not really. Why not just use a separate desktop and run it again so it's out of the way while you're working?

Well ..i set it to scan recursively from root this morning and it took about 3 hours to complete the scan. So i thought it would be nice to look at the results without having to wait another 3 hours

Well, I just checked 'man clamscan' and there are options to print out or save the results to a file. Perhaps you'd want to leave it running overnight using one of those?
