Terminal prompt

It's not really a problem but when I open a terminal I'm greeted with:

bash-3.1$

When I SU to root it shows:

[root@Merlin wayne]#

On my son's fresh install of FC5 it shows:

[alex@Lucky ~]$

Apart from a few pickled brain-cells, am I missing something?
