FC5 - "Cannot open display" error

A couple of weeks ago, I decided to make my first attempt at Linux and FC5 turned out to be my choice since I had heard good things. I first installed it perfectly fine on my laptop, which is moderately powerful, about a week ago. After that, I wanted to install it on my desktop, which is pretty weak as I put it together from old computers given to me. It has an AMD proc at 800 MHz and 448 MB of SDRAM. The hard drive that I am trying to put FC5 on is 20.4 GB (the other is 6 GB and has Windows ME on it). I began the installation expecting it to be even easier to install than on my laptop because of not having to partition a drive, but pretty quickly I hit an error. The installation stops with the final message on the screen saying "Gtk Warning **: cannot open display". What exactly does this mean? What do I have to do to finish the installation? I didn't find any video card requirements for this version, but if that is the problem, what are the requirements and I will consider buying a new card (depending on price)?

at the start of the install instead of hitting enter to start the install type: linux text

then hit enter, the install will run in text mode and after you have everything installed you can mess with /etc/X11/xorg.conf settings to get X working (sometimes it wil lwork after install even if it didnt work for the install)

the install trys to use as generic as possible vesa driver and sometimes the video card has issues with that.

there are other install options you can try too. like specifying the resolution or a noprobe option (not recommended unless its a last resort because you will spend lots of time configuring things afterword that normally auto configure)

Thanks. I tried that a few times and it gave me the same problem, but I noticed that I never actually saw "linux text" show up before it went on to the next step, so I switched keyboards even though it didn't really make that much sense to me since the keyboard was working at later stages in the installation. Somehow it worked, though, even though I still didn't actually see "linux text" show up. It's not done yet, but its working on it right now. Thanks again. I'll drop by again if it doesn't go through.
