Question FC4 rpm header download problems with up2date.

Trying to download rpm headers for FC4 in all updates-released, extras and base channels. Up2date keeps dying and successive re-opens gradually moves through the list, needing constant babysitting. Is this becuase I have not updated for some while or is something wrong?

Please don't use up2date - the recommended way is to use yum (gui version is 'yumex') . Check out the details here: http://stanton-finley.net/fedora_cor...notes.html#Yum or here: http://www.fedorafaq.org/fc4/#installsoftware . Now, these are two different yum setups, so pick one and stick with it for most installs and certainly for updates. Occasionally, you might need to use one of the other repositories and then you'd use the 'yum --enablerepo=(whatever) install programname' Check 'man yum' for details on yum too, and read though this tutorial: http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/yum/

Thanks so much for the advice Bob. I followed instructions in section six of the http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/yum/ to update my whole system and nearly seven thousand rpm packages were update in a few minutes with no hitches. I also followed instruction to set up nightly updates. Of course I am about to do a restart so if you never hear from me again............ just joking.
