ADSL thomson speedtouch 330 ver 4

hi folks

wonder if anyone can point me int the right direction with this ......

i have a thomson speedtouch 330 ADSL modem version 4 which i have previously used with FC4 without any problem. however i resently rebuilt the box and now it does not work.

getting the modem to work is a bit a fuss but following the direction at http://www.linux-usb.org/SpeedTouch/fedora/index.html has worked previously.

when rebooting the ADSL should come up automatically but gives the following error mesage ....

failed to activate ppp0 with error 1

from the logs i can added the following info if it helps ....

from /var/log/dmesg .......

usbcore: registered new driver speedtch
speedtch 1-2:1.0: found stage 1 firmware speedtch-1.bin
speedtch 1-2:1.0: found stage 2 firmware speedtch-2.bin
ATM dev 0: ADSL line is synchronising

so i reckon the ADSL modem is loading the firmware OK ....

also ....

Nov 21 12:46:01 watson ifup-ppp: /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/chat-ppp0 does not exist for ppp0
Nov 21 12:46:08 watson system-config-network[2781]: Error: xdsl not in DeviceFactory!
Nov 21 12:47:18 watson system-config-network[2781]: chmod 0644 //etc/sysconfig/networking/devices/ifcfg-ppp0
Nov 21 12:47:21 watson ifup-ppp: /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/chat-ppp0 does not exist for ppp0
Nov 21 12:56:34 watson ifup-ppp: /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/chat-ppp0 does not exist for ppp0

so it looks like im looking for a chat-ppp0 file but what is this file and where do i find it ?
any help would be mnuch appreciated

A wild guess... have you used system-config-network to configure your new ADSL connection ? I maybe wrong, but it looks like it's missing some configuration there...

difficulties as well

I am also having problems getting the rev4 330 working in FC4. It worked fine on FC3. I have tried the kernel drivers but havnt tried the userspace ones yet. Have also tried the speedtouchconf bundle to no avail.

I think its got something to do with the udev version and hotplug as stated in the kernel FAQ's. I have tried updating udev to 0.8 (but i dont know what version FC4 ships with), still nothing.

Have checked /var/log/msg and it shows the same as previous poster, speedtch1.bin & 2 loaded. Have also rebuilt the box now 4 or 5 times in the space of 4 days.

I have noticed that the connection does not appear in the Network Config GUI but I cant remember if FC3 did that also? I did note that the kernel driver appears not to install the peers file http://www.linux-usb.org/SpeedTouch/faq/index.html#q18

I had a look at another post http://forums.fedoraforum.org/forum/...speedtouch+330 and they are having problems with an ethernet connection to a router. Maybe its a probelm with having a LAN Card installed

Any ideas anyone?
