Smile Linux equivalents for html and CSS

Hi

I've been using PSPad for PHP on Windows and I've been using the freeware version of Topstyle for CSS.

What would be good Linux equivalents for these? I've been reading about Bluefish but I haven't tried it yet. I tried looking at Quanta but when I viewed it in MDI mode (or a mode with a similar sounding name) it went funny and froze up on me.

I've used PHPEclipse in the past on Windows but it was really slow to load on my system plus it kept crashing periodially and I had to keep re-installing it (possibly a Windows problem I guess).

I want to use Netbeans for JSP/Servlets and I've got small hard drives (8gig and 10gig) so it might get a bit tight with both PHPEclipse and Netbeans installed on the same hard drive

I have (for now) a:
Pentium 2-350
448Mg PC100 SDRAM
8gig and 10gig hdd (in caddies so only one is in at one time)
64mg Radeon ATI 7000 video card
Fedora Core 4
(Fedora Core 5 with my next computer)

Thanks

Thank for the replies. I'll check out Bluefish after I get home this Friday night (that's when I go to the monthly meeting of the Linux Users Group I go to).

Have fun

My vote is on Quanta+ especially for PHP. However, the current (latest) version freezes occasionally so I'm waiting for a bug fix. Bluefish is OK (light and fast) but just doesn't cut it after you get used to Quanta+'s PHP variable code completion.

Since Quanta+ isn't usable right now, I switched to jEdit for now. I must say I like it. Clean interface, nice syntax highlighting, lots of plugins. So, definitely try Quanta+ (when they fix it). Also give jEdit a try (it's Java based but it's not slow at all).

I can't compare since I havn't used all but I am using bluefish with good results for php, css, xml, html. I have tried amaya but it didn't seem to be what I needed for writing the code and was confusing for a beginner to figure out.

amaya, bluefish, but best of all is GEDIT! gedit is the gnome editor for manual coding, it provides more customizability & flexibility than WYSIWYG editor as you're making the code yourself.

Bluefish is okay, however, it had some strange quirks last time I used it. I won a free copy of Zend Studio and I absolutely love it. Unfortunately, it's not free. Before I had it, I found the best was to just code in gedit as previously suggested.

nvu provides a nice WYSIWYG editor for HTML if you don't need absolute control. I often do tedious or redundant things in nvu and then manually tweak the code.

Though I also like doing my CSS by hand, there's a css editor for gnome I belive it's called cssed. www.gnomefiles.com should have all of these programs.

Cheers.

I think I didn't like it because of the formatting of the CSS it generated or something. Something with the tabs or spacing-- can't remember. I'm too picky sometimes

That CSSED looks very similar in appearance to Topstyle Lite (free version). I'll download it after I get home. I found it at:

http://cssed.sourceforge.net/

Thanks for putting me onto that

Have fun
