Can browse FedoraForum.org, can't browse google.com

Hi, sorry if this is a dumb question, but I have exhausted a lot of forums and tried a lot of things with no success. I have a new installation of FC4 setup with desktop defaults. The computer is connected to a router. I am able to see everything from my xp box, but in FC4 I can't browse www.google.com from Firefox or Lynx. I can browse some things, forums.fedoraforum.org but they seem quite slow.
I can ping www.google.com with no problems.
Hope someone can give me a few clues.
Thanks in advance.
Joe
