screen goes blank on log out after instaling ati drivers

i just installed myself fedora core 4. i wanted to have 3d acceleration so i installed ati driver from their site (i have radeon 9600xt). Now i can't log out. i mean while logging out the screen goes blank and i cant do anything but restart the machine. Anyideas guys??

Try tapping the spacebar or any key to see the shutdown messages....

I had this problem after installing the official ATI drivers, too. It did that no matter what I did/how I installed the drivers, but I found that when using the livna.org ATI drivers, it all works fine. I get full 3D acceleration and it logs out just fine now!
