Mplayer Problem, Assistance needed
Hello all,
I installed FC3 on my desktop recently. I also installed mplayer without a hitch, and it works perfectly. My friend asked me to installed FC3 on his PC aswell. So installed it, also without a hitch. Now the problem came to playing media files. I installed mplayer the same way I installed it on my PC, however I cant open any media files on his pc. Mplayer DOES open files on his pc, HOWEVER, It display nothing (black screen, however playtime is moving), and has no sound. The sound on the system works perfectly with RealPlayer, and doing a Sound Card test does have sound. So It cant be a hardware problem.
I also installed the same codecs for my pc to his. So what might be the problem. That leads to a codec problem, but I cant find out what it is. Any suggestions?
thanks

What type os media format is it (.wmv , .mov etc ) ? I find Mplayer has problems playing .wmv files under FC3, just a codec problem. But all other media formats should work.

Thats the wierd thing they all should work, but non have sound or video!!, blank screen with no audio. But the playtime is moving. Thats all. Its wierd, it could be that the player is looking at a non existing folder for the codecs? I dunno.

Right click the mplayer screen choose preferences then the Video tab select a different driver like xv or open gl to see if that helps

I had the same problem too. I found a file called codecs.conf in a doc folder and copied it into the etc folder. I also downloaded the essential codecs file from http://www1.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/design7/dload.html and installed them in the folders that text file said the should go.

I also have issues playing wmv files. Once again it is microsoft formatting that is causing the problem. I'm not to sure, but at http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/design7/dload.html

Support for Windows Media formats except WMV9
exists but still has some bugs, your mileage may vary. This step is not
mandatory, but recommended for getting MPlayer to play a broader range of
formats. Please note that most codecs only work on Intel x86 compatible PCs

I just grabbed the all-20050216.tar.bz2 codec files and upacked and copied to the /usr/local/lib/codecs
See if that helps

I have a problem with MPlayer and XMMS. In MPlayer is there a way to make it auotmatically start playing a DVD? I always have to browse into the folder and start it from there. Also in XMMS, I installed the xmms-mp3 plugin, then when i went to play a mp3 it came up with an error saying that due to legal copyright Red Hat has removed the plugin (or something along those lines). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
