    http-public_html-symlink problem

    All,
    I was hopefull someone could clue me in on my current problem with apache the the user directories public_html.
    What I have is a bunch of symbolic links to folders inside of the public_html user directory. If I place anything in the public_html folder apache lists it in a web browser just like its sopposed to, but not the symlinks. I have chmodded the symlinks, the target directories, tinkered with httpd.conf, and still no success.
    Here are the lines of concern for the public_html part of httpd.conf

    Directory /home/*/public_html>
    AllowOverride FileInfo AuthConfig Limit

    # Options MultiViews Indexes SymLinksIfOwnerMatch IncludesNoExec
    Options MultiViews Indexes FollowSymLinks IncludesNoExec
    <Limit GET POST OPTIONS>
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
    </Limit>
    <LimitExcept GET POST OPTIONS>
    Order deny,allow
    Deny from all
    </LimitExcept>
    </Directory>

    Am I missing something obvious?

    Thanks

    I had the same problem, I never solved it. I belive it has to do with selinux and the different labeling of /home/user and /home/user/public_html so therefore symlinks to directories outside of public_html don't work. Atleast that is my understanding.

    as an option inside the directory add:

    Options Indexes FollowSymLinks

    reference: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/mod/core.html#directory

    couldnt hurt to disable selinux while you are testing it too: setenforce 0

    Well, I did just as bytesniper said and it worked!!!

    Hooray, I now have symlinks in my home directory and they work!!!

    Thank you Fedora Community!

    Wow... i had the same problems..

    thanks bytesniper this Option worked perfectly !!!

    but i had

    <directory "home/*/public_html">
    Option Indexes FollowSymLinks
    </directory>

    there is any problem with the security here.. How can i know if all the files are secure ?

    do i need to place any .htaccess file in /home/* ? and if yes, what would be a good configuration ?
