smooth fonts

I have Fedora Core 3 and ati radeon 9600pro on my computer. I'm using default
fc 3 ati radeon 9600pro driver. The problem is that the overall picture quality is blurry. For e.g. When I'm using firefox and the fonts are small I can't even read them properly. Changing the driver doesn't help. I have set the minimum pixel size on firefox to 12 so that I can read all texts.

The font settings in preferences (smooth, best contrast etc) doesn't help either.
Any suggestions?

On other computer I have radeon 9200 and fc3. The picture quality is much sharper.

Hello,

You didn't say whether you compared fonts on 2 systems using the same monitor or not.
If you tested systems with two different monitors, it is possible that the difference in technical characteristics of monitors plays cruical role.
