Stand Alone Server

Ok heres the deal, I got my hands on an old p3 600 and i'd like to to turn it into a stand alone linux server that I will use just for encoding movie files. I've searched the internet for something simaliar but i came up with nothing. If some one can point me into the direction of a howto on stand alone linux servers I would be a happy camper. Thanx in advance

"Stand alone" means headless? No video just a network cable?

Install the "Minimum" set of packages on FC3. That should include openssh-server so you can ssh to the box over the network. For sharing include the samba server in the install.

You need to find software for what you will be encoding. Hardware drivers must be also fully supported to do what you want fast.

I dont think there are tools for shell, so you will install linux as workstation and use it like a windows box.

This is not a proper place for this topic, post it to another place, related to multimedia
