FC2 - root login not possible $HOME is not set

Hello everybody, this is the error I get when try to SUDO root (or su root) in FC2.
It's not possible to login with root from kdm, and fortunately I have had the possibility to create an user (this from which i'm writing now)
Do you know how can i resolv? The problem happens after install deinstall something I can't remember.

Thanks

What happens if you Ctrl-Alt-F1 to a text console and try to login as root there?

Do a cat /etc/passwd and see what it says for root at the top!

Should be this:

root:x:0:0:root:/root:/bin/bash

Well, replace your broken top line

root:x:0:0:root::

with this

root:x:0:0:root:/root:/bin/bash

and your problem is over.
