I've googled, I've searched the FC forums and all I've really found is that many people are having problems printing with a parallel port printer in FC2 and have found no solutions. I'm not a noob, but close. Here's what I've got.
FC2, trying to set up an HP722C parallel printer. Upon boot, the printer is recognized and loaded as lp0 by the redhat hardware configuration tool. When I go to print setup (using gnome) and edit the printer, the drivers are correctly loaded for HP722C although the queue lists it as dev/lp0/Custom device. I cannot print a test page. When I bing up the gui configuration, it says "printer not connected, will retry in 30 seconds" It is connected! and it was found on boot. I even tried dowloading and installing the pnm2ppa ppd and imported it correctly. Got the same problem when I used that driver. When I try to print a test page, I either get "lpr: unable to print file: server-error-service-unavailable" or if I delete the printer, then add it again, it will just print to the cups spool (or ascii, I've tried both) and never actually print. I had zero problems setting up a USB printer HPOfficejet 5110, just this parallel one. (Of course, when I moved the 5110 to my daughters XP machine, it also installed with no problems.) I've got a samba shared printer that works fine via windoze and also a router networked printer that's working fine, I just thought it would be fun to have a local printer for my linux box. It's now to the point where it's not that much fun.
Any help would be greatly appreciated !
