system stalls when booting after installation

I have just installed Fedora Core 3 for AMD 64.
I did not seem to encounter any problems or errors during the installation. When rebooting the system, I first had to run through the first-time-boot configuration. Again, there didn't seem to occur any problems here.
But after this first-time-boot configuration, I get a screen with all kinds of coloured stripes (but I can see and move my cursor).
I think it might have to do with the monitor I'm using (AOC HT731), because I didn't see it in the list of monitors. I chose "Default CRT Monitor (1240*1028).

Is there anyone who can help me, or at least direct me toward an other thread on this forum covering the problem I have? Thanks.
