shutdown slow on fedora 24 kde

Shutdown is slow on 24 plasma it takes 1 minute 30 seconds to shut down anyone know the fix fot this

Umount/unplug any external drives (usb sticks, mechanical drives) if i have to guess, if you provide a log maybe we can tell exactly what is going on. Use journalctl command for logs, option -b to filter boots.

1st shutdown with mate I had a wait for User ID message with a 90 second timer counting down. after that it's been fine since. it may settle and need no action, I didn't pursue the cause since it hasn't happened again

Sounds to me like the newly introduced systemd feature to end user processes during shutdown. The time can be configured in /etc/systemd/system.conf and the default is 90 seconds. You can reduce it to, for example 30 seconds by setting the parameter

DefaultTimeoutStopSec=30s

It seems those are some random lines from log, what we need is at least the last lines when system is shutting down. The best thing would be to attach whole log from a single boot. For example for the last boot use:

$ journalctl -b -1 | fpaste

And post link to the log here.

I don't think re-install would fix it. You can try to create new user and see if problem persists with fresh user configuration. As a workaround you may lower systemd timeout value. In file /etc/systemd/system.conf uncomment and edit line where it says #DefaultTimeoutStopSec=90s.

did you remember to do:

systemctl daemon-reload

??

You can change stuff in /etc/systemd/system.conf all day long and it has no effect until you
1) reboot
or
2) run "systemctl daemon-reload"

when I shut down from menu it hangs but I have discovered that if I let fedora shut down from display manager it shuts down as it should in 30 seconds
