    Re: MATE-Desktop for fedora

Hi Wolfgang, with bluedevil for F22 no longer available as an option for MATE, I am now wondering if your GTK3 build supports the GNOME bluetooth GUI tools?

EDIT - I'm going to give the above a whirl having just removed the incompatible packages mentioned in your post above

Alternatively is there any way of using the F21 bluedevil packages and dependencies in F22? I'm guessing probably not but I thought you would have more idea than me.

Cool, that you try GTK3 version of Mate
The main problem with gnome-bluetooth is that it is only configurable with gnome-control-center, also the systray icon is removed since f19. So gnome-bluetooth is not an alternative for nice desktops.
Same with bluedevil, with kde5 they removed the systray icon too. I don't know if bluedevil preferences can be choosen in mate. ( I don't use bluetooth).
A alternative is new blueman at https://copr.fedoraproject.org/coprs...a/blueman-git/
I've heard that it works. > My hope is that someone starts to bring in bluedevil again in fedora.

    Re: MATE-Desktop for fedora

You sir are a gentleman and a scholar.

Thank you very much for the blueman information. It seems to work perfectly well even though it states it cannot receive files on the github page. I've found it does.

gnome-bluetooth as half expected was useless and I don't want to install KDE minimal for bluedevil functions. It was worth a try even to explore GTK3 MATE at the same time.

I'm using it right now with Compiz and Emerald running. It renders quite nicely on my notebook screen. I may be tempted from the comfy slippers of GTK2 into the GTK3 running shoes if I can find a theme I can get on with.

EDIT - I've posted the solution to getting blueman installed and running in a separate thread to avoid cluttering up this one so that other users can benefit from it hopefully.

    Re: MATE-Desktop for fedora

There is an issue with mate-terminal GTK3 in f22, which is related to vte291 in f22.
vte291 ships a new /etc/profil.d/vte.sh which is changed for a new function in gnome-terminal. see https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=711059
In result the command promt looks broken with mate-terminal.
In f22 mate gtk3 vte.sh needs to edit like this.
    Code:
    __vte_prompt_command() {
      local pwd='~'
      [ "$PWD" != "$HOME" ] && pwd=${PWD/#$HOME\//\~\/}
      printf "\033]0;%s@%s:%s\007%s" "${USER}" "${HOSTNAME%%.*}" "${pwd}" "$(__vte_osc7)"
    }
This is from the old version of vte.sh.

Edit: no reason for it with mate-terminal-1.12.0-12 anymore

Another issue with GTK3 version is that only the 'slider' notification theme is working.

    Re: MATE-Desktop for fedora

Is this thread a good place to request adding Mate Tweak to the Fedora repos?

I am familiar with the original mintDesktop from which mate-tweak is forked. The fork removes the Mint components. The tool does only a few things but for point-and-click users the tool is quite handy and fits well with recent efforts to make Fedora Workstation more appealing to "a wide general audience."

I do not know where to find the original sources. Perhaps this will help:

    https://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=mate-tweak

    Re: MATE-Desktop for fedora

Hi, I still have GTK+3 running but now in VM. My notebook is back using a clean install of F22 MATE GTK+2 with my usual preferences set and running like clockwork

Going back to the main point I am posting - I have found in GTK+3 that if I make the panels transparent, then the applets start crashing. Do you want the problem report output for the crashes Wolfgang or were you already aware of this?

Also, a very minor observation. The Blue-Submarine GTK+3 version has big chunky dimpled handles for applets. I prefer the more minimal GTK+2 style for Blue-Submarine theme. Is there any way to bring those back? Other than that, so far it is working well. I did experience the terminal issue noted above but just reset and cleared it when it happened (tweak now applied).

Finally, what is the likelihood of mint-menu being ported to GTK+3. Is that your domain or should I ask the mint-menu team on github?

Edit - reported the issues on the github page. What about compiz-emerald crashes? where do they need reporting?

    Re: MATE-Desktop for fedora

I can't seem to get mate installed. It is not a conflict problem, but a dnf download speed that starts choking half way through the list of items. A few bytes per second moving down to a complete stall. I tried with and without the -4 dnf option.

That sounds more like a throttling action... And not necessarily on your end either. Some servers automatically start throttling when a single IP number goes past some threshold.

I've not used dnf yet, but aren't there alternate servers available that could be used instead?

    Hi JP

I don't choose the mirrors. Fedora maintains a mirror site. As well, dnf can have three concurrent downloads. Hopefully, one of the concurrent downloads could be from an alternate site.

    - panel
This i dont' see here, is the problem still exists? In our conversation about blue-submarine i saw you're using a transparancy panel?
There is only a freeze in the panel if you add a launcher from menu or desktop to the panel. In this case a 'killall mate-panel' helps to restart the panel. see https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-panel/issues/305

mintmenu isn't ported to GTK3, i don't think that linuxmint guys will do that in the next time. Not shure if they want compile their mate edition with gtk3 if mate gtk3 is official by upstream in future.

    -compiz
There was a prob with compiz-plugins-main and and compiz-plugin-extra package (animation plugin) which i've been fixed .

I noticed also a timeout if i clean the metadata cash and create them new.
It hangs every time by downloading metadata from fedora main repo.
For this reason i've rebuild latest full working yum version for f22.
    http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/b...buildID=578294
    Here i did:
    - edit this redirector patch
    http://pkgs.fedoraproject.org/cgit/y...precated.patch
    - and removed runtime requires to dnf-yum package which provides the redirector /usr/bin/yum now.

In result you have a new binary /usr/bin/yum-old and the deprecation warning are gone. And you have a full working yum again.

With that build i noticed that the metadata from fedora base repo is about 18 MB.
With dnf the metadata is about 35 MB !
Here is a link to the srpm
    https://raveit65.fedorapeople.org/Ot...6.fc22.src.rpm

    * Use it on your own risk , take a look at the edited patch *
It's not worse to look at koji buildserver from time to time to see if there is an update for yum.

    Re: MATE-Desktop for fedora

    To all Mate users:
I can't work anmore at reghat bugzilla to solve your issues.
Someone (a well known geman fedora maintainer) has filed or a ticket against me at fedora cwg.
Also he observe all may activities at redhat bugzilla.
I do not agree with that, and to save myself from his observations i can't use bugzilla anymore.

Sorry for that, please file out issues with Mate directly at https://github.com/mate-desktop for now.
    I will help you there.

    Thank you
