My experience may be useful to someone here.
My system runs Fedora 18 x86_64.
I tried to install the RPM of Google Earth 7 downloaded from https://www.google.com/earth/download/ge/agree.html through yum, but encountered this error. Then, I managed to install the package with rpm -U --force, but the program crashed on startup.
So, I opted for the following workaround:
- downloaded Google Earth 6.2.2.6613 (i.e., the latest release of version 6) from http://dl.google.com/earth/client/GE...3-0.x86_64.rpm ;
- installed it through
Code:rpm -U --force google-earth-stable-6.2.2.6613-0.x86_64.rpm- installed some missing dependencies with
Code:yum install redhat-lsb.i686 redhat-lsb-graphics.i686 redhat-lsb-printing.i686
Now Google Earth is installed and runs correctly (though not the latest version).

Thanks Mr Wolf, your method worked for me. One thing I've noticed though is the fonts appear like they do with programs I run under wine. Do your fonts look fine?

Thanks Mr. Wolf. Worked for me too.
But here's a small oddity. I had a previous installed version, the one that crashed immediately. Now, both work.
Thanks for posting this.
Step 1 worked well. Step 2 needed lsb so I installed step 3 next.
Trying step 2 again returned the message below. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

I use the following steps to install the 64-bit on F19 (Beta) successfully. I remember a few Fedora releases ago I also needed to install a few i686 version of the packages to satisfy the dependencies, however, it is not the case now. Based on the 'ldd' result, I found I only need these.
1. Install the dependency packages first: redhat-lsb, pax, qtwebkit-devel. The last package is to provide "libQtWebKit.so". Some how it is available in the -devel package and that pull-along a number of other -devel packages to be installed. You have been warned.
2. Download the latest version of RPM from Google and install it using rpm by force due to it being conflicting with filesystem package and yum does not like it.Code:# yum install redhat-lsb pax qtwebkit-devel
In my F19 system, google-earth can be launched from CLI or via Gnome3 Shell out-of-the-box. The QT font is being rendered clearly in the stable release that I tested, 7.1.1.1580 (beta). Not sure the credit should go to google-earth or freetype-infinality though.Code:# rpm -ivh --force google-earth-stable_current_x86_64.rpm
In my short test, google-earth has crashed a few times. But otherwise, it works: 3D layers, street-view, tours, etc.

Great news!
I finally managed to install Google Earth 7.x without the "conflicts with file from package filesystem-3.1-2.fc18.x86_64" error.
I just had to follow the steps described here: https://code.google.com/p/earth-issu...il?id=1525#c32.
What I did was:
- downloading the RPM of the latest version of Google Earth from http://www.google.com/earth/download/ge/agree.html;
- installing rpmrebuild:
Code:su -c "yum install rpmrebuild"- executing rpmrebuild on the downloaded RPM package:
Code:rpmrebuild -ep google-earth-stable_current_x86_64.rpm- in the file that opens in the terminal, deleting the following line:
Code:%dir %attr(0755, root, root) "/usr/bin"- saving the file and exiting;
- answering yes. The program will return the path to the modified RPM package.
- installing it with
Code:su -c "yum localinstall <path_to_the_Google_Earth_modified_RPM>"
Enjoy!

I get a similar error with the 32 bit F18 installation.
For background, I am using Fedora 18 on an Asus M2N68-AM PLUS motherboard, with AMD Phenom 9600 Quad and 4 GB RAM. The kernels I have available are:
3.8.11-200.fc18.i686.PAE
3.8.11-200.fc18.i686
and
3.6.10-4.fc18.i686
Only the last-named is usable - the two 3.8.11-200 kernels give the frozen/scrambled screen problem that I have previously reported with F17 on the same hardware. That F17 problem was suggested to be a video driver problem. It eventually disappeared with later versions of the F17 kernel.
That same problem appeared immediately I installed F18.
If I follow the steps given by Bob and Leigh, Google Earth appears to work - but only for about 10 seconds.
Using rpm -U --force does not work.
If I install the nvidia drivers with
yum install xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686
then Google-Earth works perfectly - until I reboot. After rebooting I cannot get into any of the three kernels. However, i can get to another screen with a command prompt and login and remove the nvidia drivers to regain a usable system.
If I follow the steps suggested by debo2011 I get a crippled version of Google Earth that soon gives me a frozen/scrambled screen and a totally unresponsive system.
Any suggestions gratefully received.
I enjoy using Google Earth. If I cannot solve this problem I will go back to F17 and await F19.
UPDATE:
I found that even kernel 3.6.10-4.fc18.i686 gave the same problem of a frozen/scrambled screen - but took a bit more time to show it.
So back to F17 with a fresh install. I had previously had a stable F17 system with the latest kernels and a usable Google Earth - but not this time. All but one of the kernels I tried gave almost immediate frozen/scrambled screens no matter what I was trying to do.
I went back to kernel 3.3.4-5.fc17.i686 and this has given no trouble after many hours of use, provided that I do not attempt to use Google Earth.
Are these problems a peculiarity of my CPU/Motherboard combination?

@MrWolf,
I searched the forum for info about google earth and found this thread. Read through everything and followed you instructions above. Worked perfectly for me running Fedora 18 64 bit (Kernel Linux 3.9.4-200.fc18.x86_64). I had just tried the downloaded file and it wouldn't install.
Thanks for the instructions, they are appreciated.
