OSS Sound from more than one app

On my old box with a SB PCI512K I could have mutliple apps playing sound at one time.

On this new box, it has onboard sound (ac97_codec, i810_audio), and I'm unable to play sound from more than one app at a time using OSS. I don't like artsd because it seems kind of lagged when changing volume, etc.

e.g., Play a song in XMMS, Start a movie in gmplayer -> xmms plays, gmplayer wont have any sound.

Any ideas how to get them to cooperate? BTW, I have them all set to use OSS.

Thanks for any input.

Dave
