Installing Netbeans in Fedora 17

I have downloaded netbeans-7.2.1-ml-linux.sh into home/downloads and now want to install it

How can i do that?

I tried the "sh" command and that's not working.

Do i need to move the sh file to some other directory before trying to install?

No, this should work fine:
Quote:

cd <directory containing the file>

sh netbeans-7.2.1-ml-linux.sh

Re: Installing Netbeans in Fedora 17

I am totally new to Fedora or for that matter Linux. Right now i got the sh file in Home --> Downloads.

So i open a terminal and type in "cd home/downloads"

And i get a message saying - no file or directory.

Can anyone tell me how to get to that directory?

I have no idea how the files/directories are managed in Fedora.

Thanks

:-)

Re: Installing Netbeans in Fedora 17

The directory name is case sensitive in Linux, there is no "downloads" directory that Fedora puts in your /home/username directory, usually it's "Downloads" with a capital D

so try this to change directories:

cd ~/Downloads ( tilde represents your home directory )

or

cd (change directory with no argument will go to your personal home directory)

then run

sh ./netbeans-7.2.1-ml-linux.sh

This runs the bash shell "sh" so that the argument (the netbeans install script) is run as a shell script (which it is). The sh shell supports command and directory name completion, so if you want to reduce typing, just type a few letters of the directory name and press your tab key. It will either fill out the entire directory name or show the ambiguous list:

cd
cd Down<tab> --> cd Downloads
