how do you disable the 'confirm close tabs' dialog in Firefox

I have Firefox 16 and really don't want the "confirm close tabs" prompt when I close multiple tabs. I want to close as many tabs as I want and not be asked about it.

I found the property in about:config that sounds like the right one, "browser.tabs.warnOnClose" and set that to false but it didn't help. Can some one tell me how to stop that?

On the menu bar go to Edit > Preferences and click on Tabs...

Are you sure? I've frequently changed about:config settings and they start working instantly

I just disproved that right now, when I go in about:config and toggle "browser.tabs.onTop" between true and false, the tabs move immediately and it doesn't require a restart

In the menu, edit > preferences > tabs. Un-check "warn me when closing multiple tabs".

Glenn,

I already had that check box unchecked (this is my screen shot attached), and the "confirm close tabs?" dialog still shows. That's why I was trying to find a about:config option that works

Well, I sort of figured that you would have already looked there but I thought I'd state the obvious anyhow. Any progress?

Re: how do you disable the 'confirm close tabs' dialog in Firefox

This is what's going on:

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewto...f=38&t=2571653

basically it was some design decision by mozilla to change this..
I guess I might try this extension:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...bs-by-double-/

Re: how do you disable the 'confirm close tabs' dialog in Firefox

Have you tried setting the about:config option browser.tabs.warnOnClose to false?

Edit:

I just read in your original message that you had tried this, and it didn't work, but it works fine for me here on Firefox 16. I wonder what the difference is?

Re: how do you disable the 'confirm close tabs' dialog in Firefox

Meh, I've just gone and installed the "Close other tabs by double click" extension (mentioned before in post 10), it does what I want....

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...bs-by-double-/

All the other tabs close instantly and no need to see the dialog.

Hmmm.. That looks like a handy extension. I may give it a try.

Re: how do you disable the 'confirm close tabs' dialog in Firefox

There is an about:config setting coming in Firefox 19.0 that will disable that warning.

browser.tabs.warnOnCloseOtherTabs

Since I have been testing Firefox 16.0 since it was Nightly, and only close multiple tabs twice a session, I got used to it.

You can bet I disabled it in the current Nightly (Firefox 19.0)

Yes, but I'm on Firefox 16 and didn't want to depend on the nightly Firefox, browser.tabs.warnOnCloseOtherTabs is not available for Firefox 16
"Close other tabs by double click" extension is a pretty good fix for Firefox 16
