Windows 7+Fedora 17 Dual Boot help

I Have Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit on my 1TB HDisk. I downloaded "Fedora 17 I686 Live KDE.iso" from fedora website and burnt it into a disk.
After choosing option to shrink volume, install in free space or custom installation,i get an unhandled exception.
I wasnt able to install fedora 11 and 14 for the same reason.

Re: Windows 7+Fedora 17 Dual Boot help

It would be better to post the results of:

Code:
fdisk -l

Code:
parted -l

Re: Windows 7+Fedora 17 Dual Boot help

I usually create an empty, unformatted partition using some of the free space (using the Windows thingy). Then I reboot with the Fedora install disk and choose that unformatted partition as the install target.

Re: Windows 7+Fedora 17 Dual Boot help

Download SystemRescue. It's a really light live distro and is invaluable to setting up your partitions. The application you want to use is gparted. With this you can resize windows and then set up your Linux ones; Usually "/", swap and home. It can be handy to make these under an extended partition as hard-drives are limited to only 4 physical partitions; so if you have 3 windows partitions you will not have enough left for Linux. Please make up backups of windows and consider perhaps using something like Norton Ghost (I believe there are free ones also) to mirror your windows system. If you need documentation I believe this is available from the SystemRescue site:

http://www.sysresccd.org/SystemRescueCd_Homepage

Hope this works for you

Re: Windows 7+Fedora 17 Dual Boot help

Hi, I'd like to install Windows 7 and fc17 on my laptop that has two disks. I'd like to use one disk for Windows and one for Linux.

Should I just install Windows first, then Linux?

How do I replace the Windows boot loader with grub and still be able to boot Windows?
