Fedora 17 - Logging in after selecting source kicks me out to the login screen

Hi Gurus,

This is Vivek, iam very new to linux desktop environments. I have been using Fedora 17 for my official work from the last couple of months and i feel this to be very light on applications and fast when compared to Windows.

Ok, now the problem is I was trying to have the feel and look of Mac OSX Lion theme on my existing Fedora 17 desktop. I have installed the required rpm "fedoramd-release-17.rpm" and rebooted the machine. Now, i have the new option on the login screen to select from source i.e., 'enligtenment' and 'gnome'. When i select enligtenment and supply my login credentials n hit go, this kicks me back to the login screen again. This is not letting me what i wish to desire.

Please help me, if iam missing anything here.

Steps done:

shell> su -c 'rpm -Uvh http://repo.fedora.md/fmd/fedora/fed...release-17.rpm'
shell> su -c 'yum install enlightenment exchange'

My Machine details:

Gnome version 3.4.2
Fedorar 17
Memory: 8gig
Processor: Intel® Core™ i5 CPU M 560 @ 2.67GHz × 4
Graphics: Intel® Ironlake Mobile
OS type: 64 bit
Disk: 320 gig

Try logging into GNOME and look at ~/.xsession-errors.old. Look also in /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old
As it may be some configuration issue with your Enlightenment, let's wait for the Enlightenment users to pop in and give some light.

Re: Fedora 17 - Logging in after selecting source kicks me out to the login screen

Do you have eio installed?

---------- Post added at 02:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:27 PM ----------

I have the fmd repo here and looked at its packages in yumex and saw that, at least for i686, several of them, including eio, have more than one version available. If it's not just a missing package it may be a version mismatch.

I dont think EIO is installed. But when i did 'yum install eio'. Below is the error I see.

Transaction Check Error:
file /usr/lib64/libeio.so.1 from install of eio-1.7.0-1.20120914svn.fmd17.x86_64 conflicts with file from package libeio-3.65-5.fc17.x86_64

Re: Fedora 17 - Logging in after selecting source kicks me out to the login screen

That's what I meant by version mismatch.

First of all try installing the eio version from August (that one is from Sep 14) and see if it works.

Install yumex, go to Categories, browse the fmd packages and choose the older eio version.

edit- libeio is from the fedora repo and it seems it conflicts with eio (from fmd). Try removing it.
Dan or someone that has 'e' installed, have you any tips on this?

Fedora 17 - Logging in after selecting source kicks me out to the login screen

I get the same 'cannot initialize EIO' error as Vivi (when trying 'enlightenment_start' in a shell as the desktop switcher i am using is effectively asking me to do).
But removing libeio leads to other errors :

Code:
ERR<>e_randr_12.c:214 safety check failed: E_RANDR_12_NO_MODE(mode) is true
ERR<>e_randr_12_output.c:196 safety check failed: outputs == NULL
and

Code:
Enlightenment found Evas can't load SVG files. Check Evas has SVG loader support
and

Code:
Cannot create manager object for screen 0
ETA : After putting libeio back in and switching via the login banner session options rather than the desktop switcher app, Enlightenment does work.

Re: Fedora 17 - Logging in after selecting source kicks me out to the login screen

I had enlightenment from the Fedora repo installed, and got several conflicts when I tried installing enlightenment from fmd.

I had to completely remove the older version from the Fedora repo before installing the one from fmd. There were several conflicts where it wouldn't install the newer version of some of the core libs.

Try removing the Fedora version, then try completely re-installing the fmd version.

Fedora 17 - Logging in after selecting source kicks me out to the login screen

In my case the Fedora repo version of Enlightenment was never installed prior to the fmd version.
I started with the same kind of script as Vivi has in the OP.

Code:
su
rpm -Uvh http://repo.fedora.md/fmd/fedora/fed...release-17.rpm
yum install enlightenment exchange
I think that is becoming a well aired bit of script

Re: Fedora 17 - Logging in after selecting source kicks me out to the login screen

Well, it's just a repo. Last updated one month ago (Sep 19).
It has two versions for the same package for most packages. http://repo.fedora.md/fmd/fedora/17/

There's a nightly repo for e17 at http://download.opensuse.org/reposit...tly/Fedora_17/
This seems completely up-to-date but have no idea how would work.

---------- Post added at 06:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:51 PM ----------

As for the OPs issue, it's just that by installing enlightenment it pulled libeio from fedora (e16).
I installed it here from the nightly repo and it would have the same issue so I installed first libeina1, then libeio1 and then enlightenment and it came without anything from fedora repo.

Now, it didn't work properly because after login, at the screen to choose modules it enters a loop of restarting.

I'll try to install some extra stuff that maybe it's lacking (like some modules) to see if it works. Otherwise I may try the fmd repo.

Re: Fedora 17 - Logging in after selecting source kicks me out to the login screen

The problem was solved when i removed eio-1.7.0-1.20120914svn.fmd17.x86_64 from add/remove programs. Installed eio repo again from yumex.

Thanks all for your thoughts.
