I can't keep it in anymore -- GNOME 3 sucks

Aha, that was a bit too subtle for my first time visit to gnome.org.
This looks like cloud only tweaking ?
I'll probably stick with the hack if that is the case.
But thanks anyway for mentioning it TK.

Re: I can't keep it in anymore -- GNOME 3 sucks
One of the things you might want to investigate is gnome-shell-frippery. It addresses a number of items you are not able to have happen the way you want.
Code:
Project URL : http://intgat.tigress.co.uk/rmy/extensions/index.html
The gnome-shell-frippery package contains a set extensions to the GNOME
Shell that provide a user experience more akin to that of GNOME 2. The
extensions:
* move the clock to the right of the panel
* add launchers for favourite applications to the panel
* replace the Activities button with an Applications menu
* restore static workspaces
* replace Suspend menu item with Shut Down
* add a bottom panel with window list and workspace switcher
Cheers!

Re: I can't keep it in anymore -- GNOME 3 sucks
Im glad I have had no problems and a very short learning curve with Gnome 3.
I like the fact my desktop is clean and a windows key away from anything I want, icons in bottom right corner? hmm cant see how that could be a dealbreaker they do the job intended yes?
Good luck with Kde- there seems to be more issues with kde's attempt to copy and appear windows like and the horrible memory usage even with a 4gm ram machine, kde is bloated slow compared to gnome and windows.
Then again the future is gnome style interfaces as Unity is the same, net devises are getting smaller not larger.

For me, GNOME 3 is much better than the old GNOME, whether I'm using GNOME Shell, Unity, or Cinnamon. I don't miss GNOME 2 at all.

Re: I can't keep it in anymore -- GNOME 3 sucks
When G3 was first released I spent a lot of time tweaking and hacking, and ended up with something at least useable. Then I realized I would have to do all that again with every update or new release. Very frustrating.
I think the builders of G3 lack one important insight; if you're building something for the end user, it doesn't matter what you (the builder) want. The question is, what does the end user want? You can like it to death but if the end users don't like it... In other words, if Gnome 3 was a product for sale, I think the company's finances would be in serious trouble.
IMO KDE never recovered after the release of KDE4. Yes, it's better than it was, but I have two high end boxes and KDE is noticeably slower to do, well everything, than other desktops. KDE apps even launch/work slower in Gnome and XFCE. The plasma desktop was the death of KDE.
I've been using XFCE for some time now. It's simple but tweakable, and most of all, it just works. No surprises. After every update and every upgrade, it works. So I'll stick with XFCE until it's programmers catch the KDE4/Gnome3 bug and decide they know what's best for me.

How very true! Gnome3 is all about what they want not what we want... maybe in the end we will meet in the middle

I have a feeling that some of the developers are in for a rude awakening in the near future.. Like.. About the time some of this crap gets into RHEL 7.
You know how it goes.. When the money starts talking..

Re: I can't keep it in anymore -- GNOME 3 sucks
The thing with Gnome 3 is it seems to be a step in the direction of touch screen compatibility. The world seems to have gone touch screen mad.... I hate it! I owned a touch screen phone and hated it... my sausage fingers were NOT compatible! I own a desktop which really isn't suitable for such a desktop. I hate mouse gestures etc. One of my main uses of my pc is art for which I use a graphics tablet. Loads of pressure sensitivities and brush stoke angles built in; how can using my finger be as good as using a Graphics tablet pen?? Photo editing.... Seems to me again a no go, apart from the really basic stuff. Writing documents or any Office software work....
It's all beyond me why we need this technology. The Mouse and Keyboard just work and don't need improving on for the sakes of "Apple's fashion trendy followers". Strikes me as a case of "The Emperor's clothing".
Rant over

Re: I can't keep it in anymore -- GNOME 3 sucks
Until they invent a 27" 2+Mpixel touch screen that doesn't show smudges, Gnome is dead to me. I'm impressed with the life-support efforts for Gnome2 and look-alike retrofits, but frankly they all look unsustainable to me.

RHEL6 is rather crappy compared to 5, I have no intention to taste 7, let alone with Gnom3 inside.
Money is talking all the time. It's about time it stops talking once and for all. And I guess it will.
Anyone still hopes, that all the mess with 97% of all the world property owned by 5% of biatches can be cured w/o a serious boom-boom? No, it can't.

Re: I can't keep it in anymore -- GNOME 3 sucks
That's why I don't like using words, they are meaningless most of the time.
Solve doesn't really mean anything like math in this case. It rather means evolve. Simply this state of things can't be sustained for much longer. Depending on where you live, you may or may not be aware of it.
People have their opinions and they mostly base them on their own desire to be safe. Since I don't identify myself with me, I don't care.
It's nothing negative, quite the contrary. Another misunderstanding in case of most people.
Well, I will stop it here. Like I said, words are meaningless.

And discussions including or border-lining on politics are equally meaningless on the support sections of this forum. We have the Social Groups for that.
