FotoInsight, Pixum, Smilebooks?

All three of these photobooks are available in Mac, Linux, and Windows. I've used the Linux base programs of all three of them. They are essentially the same identical programs but used by these different companies with their logos etc. in the software.

The problem is they will not work in F17 Gnome. .. I've gotten them to work in KDE F17, Ubuntu and Kubuntu. But they will not initalize. I don't know why.

The file can be extracted into your home folder where you can then can run the install file ./install.pl which opens a EULA of some sorts then asks you to let it download into your /opt directory. From your opt directory you can then set it up indicating he executable program file. Program icon is in the 'KeyAccount' folder.

Too make this story short I'm wondering what may be missing not allowing any of these programs to intialize and run. As stated earlier they will work in KDE F17 , Ubuntu 12.04 and Kubuntu 12.04.

Anybody who wants to give them a try and see what may be the issue please give me a heads up. They work very well. I had 'Smilebooks' make me a 100 page XXL photobook already and it well received and excellent by all means.

Re: FotoInsight, Pixum, Smilebooks???

Well, as if it now matters, all three programs have been downloaded for Windows and they all work with Gnome 3.4 and the latest wine. I guess that's just as good as getting the Linux versions to work. . . .though I prefer not working through 'Wine'. But if it works so what right? Just disappointed that none of them work using the Linux version. Don't know why. . . .but I know if I were running Ubuntu, Kubuntu, and KDE Fedora F17 they would run. . . All photobook software are pretty much identical (CEWE originally came out with the software initially. )

Anyways give them a try with 'Wine' the programs are pretty good and Photo books are the way to go if you want to customize and show your photos in a book format. They're expensive but the quality of the work is very good.

Re: FotoInsight, Pixum, Smilebooks?

I use pixum myself (native Linux version) on F16 and before on various Mandriva's. Over the years have had occasional problems when upgrading. Usually starting program from the command-line puts me on the right track.
The last problem I had is that Pixum's software required a 32 bits library which my 64-bits Linux by default had not installed. I cannot quite recall which lib it was, but starting it from CLI identified it clearly.
