Re: Howto for fglrx / catalyst (Ati driver)
Still no one succeeded to use the module with Fedora 16/17?
What a shame on ATI

First: I think you are the person who can't read. Didn't you read that the latest kernel 3.5.4-1.fc17.x86_64 is not working?
Second: I think a person who is "registered" here since 2006, and as I said registered here, doesn't mean he started to use Linux in 2006, till now doesn't know that to solve problems we have to read.
Grow up mate, and stop talking about things in others when they are in you!

Not for the F16/17 repos, maybe F18+ if there is Xorg 1.13 support included in 12.9

3.5.4-1.fc17.x86_64 works fine here with 12.6 legacy or nvidia

Okay, why is it not working for me? I even installed the catalyst from ATI (12.9beta) and gave me no errors at all. But when I reboot:
1- If using the rpmfusion catalyst, then the screen just freezes after plymouth finishes
2- If using the ATI catalyst, the screen just freezes at the plymouth itself.
So, please next time don't rush into people, just because they didn't write what exactly did they do.
Regards,

Re: Howto for fglrx / catalyst (Ati driver)
Try to troubleshoot by booting into runlevel 3, and then to startx on the command line.
Did you get it work on the 12.9 beta ?
I have tried a few times and the X segment-faults

Yes the 12.9 installed successfully with no problems. But after reboot the screen gets stuck at the plymouth screen! Nothing after that is done.
I went to runlevel 3 and did another initial configuration for the xorg.conf and ran startx. The screen totally goes black and is stuck!
No solution for me till now.
BTW: I have an AMD Radeon HD 6470M.

I haven't been able to test 12.6+ as I only have a HD4250 card, this makes it hard for me to maintain for rpmfusion.
Try adding this
Code:
video=vesa:off vga=normal
to /etc/default/grub
Code:
[leigh@main-pc ~]$ cat /etc/default/grub
GRUB_TIMEOUT=5
GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR="Fedora"
GRUB_DEFAULT=saved
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="rd.md=0 rd.lvm=0 rd.dm=0 SYSFONT=latarcyrheb-sun16 KEYTABLE=uk rd.luks=0 LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 rhgb quiet video=vesa:off vga=normal"
#GRUB_THEME="/boot/grub2/themes/system/theme.txt"
GRUB_DISABLE_RECOVERY=true
#GRUB_GFXMODE="1280x800x32"
#GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX="1280x800x32"
This will kill plymouth but is worth testing IMO
P.S Sorry for being a hothead

I added it to /etc/default/grub but still plymouth started and got frozen at the same place. I rebooted and added them to the kernel line in grub, it didn't run plymouth this time and went back to the legacy bootup mode, but after that it got frozen too.
I really need to get it running so I can use my laptop for presentations (plug a projector into it and use dual monitor) other than that I really don't care about the graphics issues :$

No problem mate, I thought you was an ordinary member who just loves to argue with others, didn't see that you're helping out here and maintaining a repo. Appreciate that even if it isn't for me

You need to run update-grub after editing grub.conf
Also got a HD6xxx, but kde plays nice and even do some acceleration using the i915 card. Plugged in a monitor yesterday and kde handled it without a problem. But my laptop runs hot and I hope to solve that problem with the correct driver.
What steps did you follow to build the 12.9 beta?
Thanks

I will update grub after I'm sure its working, till then let me leave it like that.
Don't know about KDE, because I use GNOME3. Its working with the default driver and things are nice, the only problem is it can't handle a projector which I need for doing presentations. That's why I wish to configure the ATI catalyst, other than that such as fglrx stuff really doesn't concern me too much!
The steps I did are the default/basic:
1- unzip the file
2- chmod +x the file
3- ./file
4- install the driver and reboot
Basics as I told you. It gave me ZERO errors but not working after reboot
Thanks for your help mate.

Re: Howto for fglrx / catalyst (Ati driver)
Did you do atconfig --initial after first reboot if you boot into runlevel 3 ?
