Re: What desktop environment do you use?

Xfce and LXDE here - the latter mostly being out of curiosity.

I've never gotten on with KDE, and Gnome3 just doesn't work for me at all. Cinnamon, MATE and E17 are all on my "try out at some time" list; for now, I'm dabbling in other distros too

The way *I* see it, any poll is skewered anyway. As they are subject to change at any given moment.

But I DID vote for Gnome & KDE... (for now)

Re: What desktop environment do you use?

As the question was about what I use, rather than what I have installed, I have to go with Gnome Shell, Enlightenment, and e16.

I spend about half my time in Enlightenment, and the rest in either e16 or Gnome. If it wasn't for the forum, and some theme experimenting, I'd probably have settled fully in Enlightenment by now. I still use e16 on the Fukushima Special when I need a lighter interface than E17. Otherwise, it lives strictly in Enlightenment. Using Gnome Shell on it is a lot like asking an ant to carry a biscuit. (That's an American style biscuit, for all you silly Brits. <....> ) Gnome Shell is just too heavy, slow and memory intensive for that machine, even with the Nvidia drivers.

Everything except the HP "Beast" laptop runs F16. The Beast runs F17, and normally stays logged into Enlightenment.

That being said, I have Cinnamon installed and updated on them all -- save the Fukushima -- and LXDE on most, but I just don't find any reason to log into them any more.

Re: What desktop environment do you use?

Switched from Gnome 2 to KDE when Gnome-sHell came out, tried E17, OpenBox and Window-Maker but see no point in switching...

I just have to ask..

How did you vote for Gnome AND KDE?

But yes, I agree, poll results really aren't very accurate unless you can get a very big slice of the user base to participate.

It's a MULTIPLE checkbox - just check all that apply.

As for polls, as long as we are free to change our minds, they will NEVER be correct.

Oh darn it! I thought you could only choose one.

Oh well, numbers for KDE, enlightenment and LXDE are short one vote..

Re: What desktop environment do you use?

Thanks Dan

Can't have the enlightenment (e17) desktop being shorted. I find myself using it more and more. It's shaping up to be a pretty good desktop.

Re: What desktop environment do you use?

I gave up on gnome. Tried KDE for a while but sheesh it has more blubber than gnome..
I used LXDE for weeks and tho' it did everything I need it was a little too minimalist for mey taste. Doesn't match all the freedesktop model stuff IIRC.
So it's XFCE for now.

Im anxious to try enlightenment again, but haven't time.

Re: What desktop environment do you use?

I too have been using Xfce the most, and haven't even installed Gnome on my F18 test machine. After using Gnome since the 0.99 code freeze, I gave up on it and tossed it in the trashcan.

As a general rule of thumb, if it's CHECKBOXES, it MULTIPLE CHOICE.
If it's RADIO BUTTONS, you can only choose ONE.
(& so-on...)

Re: What desktop environment do you use?

Also, it even states that it is a multiple choice poll.

Oh well, I will be adding an eye exam and glasses to my "to do" list

Re: What desktop environment do you use?

I need glasses myself. Didn't manage to create this poll without help. By the way it is already interesting to see that cinnamon is by far not as popular as all the brouhaha about it could indicate.
