Paradise by the Dashboard Light
Tizen Linux is a Linux Foundation to produce an automotive grade Linux.

The aim of the workgroup, according to Jim Zemlin, executive director at The Linux Foundation, is to use the Tizen OS "to create a Debian or Fedora-like project for the automotive industry.

I'm filled with curiosity and trepidation at the thought of a "fedora-like" distro in my car.

The workgroup, using Tizen as its reference distribution, will create an Automotive Grade Linux (AGL) reference platform, which the car industry can use for automotive systems including in-vehicle entertainment, digital dashboards, climate control and intelligent roadway instrumentation.
|
If they use fedora will they include non-free codecs

Hrm... Does this mean we can expect a major ECU software upgrade every six months?

I can see it now...
Driver jailed for downloading and watching pr0n while driving. They can nab traffic violators and software pirates all at one time
Also (In Gnome shell style) it means you must tap the brake pedal, then hold down the accelerator to be able to turn your car off.

Re: Paradise by the Dashboard Light
So they couldn't capture the netbook/handheld device market as Meego so we name it Tizen and hope the auto industry finds it novel enough to display on the "dashboards" of their "iCars and uGoes".

Or do you have to pull over to the side of the road to do a yum upgrade? Then hope for the best ?

Or in the upstream project they decide that the 'turn the car off' app wasn't properly maintained - so they dropped that feature

Re: Paradise by the Dashboard Light
*In your best Rod Serling imitation ... *
Imagine, if you will ... a dark night, in a driving rain, on a street lined with the trash and debris of a neighborhood caught in the vise-like grip of culture crushed under the weight of rampant crime and corruption. But, you're quite safe in your new car ... until suddenly, the engine dies, the doors automatically unlock, all other systems all lock up tight, the controls fail to respond ... and ... on the display panel ... you see the little unhappy cartoon frowny-face and read ...
Quote:
<.. ..> Oh no! Something has gone wrong. A problem has occurred and the system can't recover.

Behold! You have just entered ... The Gnome Zone!
