Error: Multilib version problems found. This often means that the root
cause is something else and multilib version checking is just
pointing it that there is a problem. Eg.:
1. You have an upgrade for im-chooser-common which is missing some
dependency that another package requires. Yum is trying to
solve this by installing an older version of im-chooser-common of the
different architecture. If you exclude the bad architecture
yum will tell you what the root cause is (which package
requires what).
2. You have multiple architectures of im-chooser-common installed, but
yum can only see an upgrade for one of those arcitectures.
If you don't want/need both architectures anymore then you
can remove the one with the missing update and everything
will work.
3. You have duplicate versions of im-chooser-common installed already.
You can use "yum check" to get yum show these errors.
...you can also use --setopt=protected_multilib=false to remove
this checking, however this is almost never the correct thing to
do as something else is very likely to go wrong (often causing
much more problems).
Protected multilib versions: im-chooser-common-1.5.2.2-1.fc17.i686 != im-chooser-common-1.5.2.2-3.fc17.x86_64

Re: FEdora 17 Xfce theme crushing
I can't help much there as my system in 32-bit, but you can try simply remove xfce4-places-plugin and see if it works (then when the new package hits your mirror you install it again).

Re: FEdora 17 Xfce theme crushing
Or try,
Code:
yum remove xfce4-places-plugin
yum update
It is likely that you don't need that particular plugin.
One more thing:
After you update to Xfce 4.10, your panel may have things that were normally pushed to the right over to the left. The solution is simple. Just add a separator, move up so that it is above anything you want on the right. Then right-click on it and change its appearance properties to "Transparent" and check the box for "Expand." This will put the things back into the usual places.
Edit:
You may also need to do this first:
Code:
yum remove im-chooser-xfce

Okay. Try this:
Open a terminal window and type in "xfwm4" and see if that restores your top panel buttons for your desktop applications. If it does, then you will know that the problem is that the window manager was not working. However, if you then exit that window, your fix goes away. Use the instructions below to fix it permanently.
Open your Applications menu. From the Settings submenu, select "Session and Startup"
Scroll down the list and make sure that the box for xfwm4 (xfce4 Window Manager) is checked (see attached screenshot).
Restart your session (log out and in should work). That should fix it permanently.

Now that we have fixed the major issues there is still one minor issue. I could not move the icon (top panel) to the far right

Re: FEdora 17 Xfce theme crushing
That one is easy.
Right click on a empty part of the top panel, select properties, then check the box for Expand.
Also, make sure you have a separator between the window buttons and the workspace switcher. That can be configured by right clicking an empty part of the top panel, go down to Panel and select Panel Preferences. On the items tab, you will see the items on your panel bar. Be sure there is a separator in there. You can change the order of how things appear by selecting them and moving them up/down in the list by clicking the up/down arrows to the right of the box.

Yes, I second D. Belton's method. I had mentioned it in one of my previous posts. I'm glad you finally got things working. I think you will enjoy Xfce 4.10. I know that I do. Lxde is nice also, but Xfce just seems to have the edge on functionality without being so bloated that it slows things down like Gnome Shell did when I was trying to use it. Admittedly, Gnome 3 and Gnome Shell may have been improved since I last tried it, but I like my Xfce desktop. I did like the clean background of Gnome 3, but disliked just about everything else about it.
The background is of Masada in Israel. It is one the rotating background pictures. The desktop background changing function added in Xfce 4.10 is nice. I used to have to run a cron job to restart the desktop periodically to get it to change desktop wallpapers. The two shots show the desktop without and with panel 2 visible. I have the second panel set to auto-hide. That is kind of like the Gnome Shell panel, but I don't have to hit any key or bump the top-left corner to activate it. I just have to move the mouse to the left edge where the panel is and it appears. That is where I have all the things I use regularly, including launchers I made for various programs.
You can be quite creative with your Xfce desktop.

Did you insert a spacer to expand? (right-click on panel, select Panel/Panel Preferences and go to the "Items" tab) If so, did you move it so that it is just below "Window Buttons" in the list?
Once the spacer is in the correct place, then you can highlight it, click on the "Edit the currently selected item" button on the right and change the properties to transparent and check the box to expand it. It should then work properly. If you have the spacer on the bottom of the list and expand it there, it can't push the rest of the items over like it should.

Re: FEdora 17 Xfce theme crushing
If you right-click on the top panel space that is to the right of your date/time panel icon, do you get a pop-up that says "separator" as the top heading? If you do, then click on "move", then drag that separator/blank-space to the left of your desktop work space entries. See if doing that shifts everything on the top panel from the desktop work space item and everything right of that to the far right, leaving that "space" to divide your running applications panel items from the icons you want to shift to the far right.

Re: FEdora 17 Xfce theme crushing
You did make certain there is a separator in your items on the panel? It won't move it over unless there is a separator in between your window buttons and workplace switcher.
In the items tab of the panel preferences you have in the image above, look to make sure there is a separator, and move it up (or down) in the list to have listed in between the window buttons and workplace switcher. If there isn't one there, click the "+" button over on the right to add one.
Then set the expand option in the properties window.

Re: FEdora 17 Xfce theme crushing
You haven't added a separator as DBelton suggested. To do so, right-click on the panel, selcet "panel" > "Add New Items..".
