Configuring Wine and Half-Life 2

I would prefer to avoid switching to Windows every time when I want to play the game, but the performance in Wine isn't so great. Framerate seems slow and there are some occasional stutters, even though the settings are not particularly high.

Fedora 17, KDE 4.8.5
Saphire Radeon HD 6670
X.org driver, Gallium 0.4
Athlon II x2 2,900 GHz
2 GB Ram

I haven't change anything outside the options menu in the game yet.
Can anyone give me advice or knows easy to comprehend guides?

I suspect it's the open-source driver you're using. I've had performance issues with it on my Radeon 4550. Have you tried installing Catalyst from the rpmfusion repository?

Re: Configuring Wine and Half-Life 2

I find it easier to use 32-bit Wine to run my Steam games.

yum install wine.i686

Use winetricks to install Steam.

The guide psihokiller4 linked is great, follow that.
