AMD Catalyst drivers & Fresh install

Hello there.

I am new to fedora.
I am trying to install my video drivers as KDE is a bit slow using the free drivers.

I downloaded
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...eon_linux.aspx

I also installed kernel, kernel-devel

Check if system has the tools required for installation.
fglrx installation requires that the system have kernel headers. /lib/modules/3.3.4-5.fc17.x86_64/build/include/linux/version.h cannot be found on this system.
One or more tools required for installation cannot be found on the system. Install the required tools before installing the fglrx driver.
Optionally, run the installer with --force option to install without the tools.
Forcing install will disable AMD hardware acceleration and may make your system unstable. Not recommended.

I tried to run with --force but it messed up my graphics and I had to do a fresh install.

So now I still get this message, I'm on a fresh install, and I don't know what to do

Thanks!

Just ran a full update (yum update)
Updated 800+ packages, but still the same problem.

I am lost, it's a real fresh install (installed two hours ago) please help.

[root@CLEVO modules]# ls
3.3.4-5.fc17.x86_64 3.5.3-1.fc17.x86_64

And uname -ra gives
Linux CLEVO.fedora 3.5.3-1.fc17.x86_64 #1 SMP Wed Aug 29 18:46:34 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

So it seems like it's searching the wrong directory.
How can I solve this ? the file exists in 3.5.3-1

In order to get Catalyst 12.6 working with 3.5 x86_64 Kernel you need to.
sudo yum install dkms
Down Catalyst 12.6 wget ####/catalyst_12.6_hotfixes/amd-driver-installer-8.98-x86.x86_64.zip"
Extract then run sh ./amd-driver-installer-12-4-x86.x86_64.run --extract FGLRX

Re: amd/ati/radeon fglrx drivers
Part 2

cd FGLRX
wget #####t/tarball/0_TESTING/catalyst-hook.tar.gz"
tar -xf catalyst-hook.tar.gz
cp ./catalyst-hook/*.* .
patch -p1 <./3.4.patch
patch -p1 <./3.5-do_mmap.patch
sudo gedit /usr/src/kernels/3.2.9-2.fc16.x86_64/arch/x86/include/asm/uaccess_64.h
comment out line 56/57 - else & WARN(1, "Buffer overflow detected!\n");
sudo ./ati-installer.sh 8.980 --install
When finished check /usr/share/ati/fglrx-install.log and confirm no errors. If any exist use /usr/share/ati/fglrx-uninstall.sh to undo.
log out to login screen and log back in.
If you have Hybrid graphics run - sudo /usr/lib64/fglrx/switchlibGL amd
sudo aticonfig --initial
Open your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and add the following line to “Device” section with fglrx as driver - Option "SWCursor" "true"
Reboot and should be good to go.

That sorted me. On a fresh install with yum update & upgrade run straight before beginning anything with the drivers.

Re: AMD Catalyst drivers & Fresh install

FC 17 XFCE edition (latest updates 29-sept-2012) + kernel-devel package and amd-driver-installer-12-9-beta-x86.x86_64.zip.

Just unzip de file and run as user root the installer amd-driver-installer-12-9-beta-x86.x86_64.run. Follow instructions. I just to install it, not created a rpm package.

It works fine.
