config.log INSTALL ONEWS tests
config.site m4 OONEWS tools
configure Makeconf.in po VERSION
configure.ac Makefile.fw README VERSION-NICK
COPYING Makefile.in share

Are there any ideas as what I am doing wrong?

Thanks for the help,
Richard

You flagged this as Solved, what was the solution so others in the future have the solution if they need to refer to this thread

Re: I am needing help with installing a tar ball

Ok ,then don't flag the thread "[SOLVED]" in that case (it's shown on the subject). Using the thread tools to mark it solved means you found the solution.
I don't know if you can unmark the solved tag on the thread but do that if you can.

About the readline error, my best guess is you should install these packages:

readline
readline-devel

Yes you generally need -devel packages to compile against libraries.
