Fedora 17 is really bad
Dear community,
How could that happen that you launched so badly designed in all ways System? Look at how many problems people refering to! And again, as being said by everybody, my laptop is also trashing and making sounds that I thought it is dieing or I would say - like an old tractor.
Jesus, what a piece of crap this Fedora Miracle #17...
Oh people.
My friend did a nice demotivator picture - with a cool & stupid gnome staying with raised hands and a caption: "Look what we have made!" - he was definitely correct.

I was a fan of Fedora for many years, but know I just can not use it anymore because the programs I have to use like Eclipse and Kile are crashed after the first update.

Re: Fedora 17 is really bad
Maybe the use I make of it is different than yours but I find F17 very good (first time I use Fedora as the main system).
As for GNOME, maybe use Xfce (like I do).

Re: Fedora 17 is really bad
Meh. Fedora is what it is. If you've been using, or have been a fan of it for years, you should know better.
Fedora 17 is freaking awesome in my experience, having it installed on 4 machines and working perfectly.

If I were you I would try out either LXDE or Cinnamon.
And then I would revise my opinion

The best way to install Eclipse is to just go to springsource at:
http://www.springsource.org/get-started
or more directly:
http://www.springsource.org/downloads/sts-ggts
and get the "Spring Tool Suite 3.0.0.RELEASE"
and skip the Fedora yum based Eclipse (which I agree is pretty bad). The Spring Suite is especially good if you want Java EE and Spring support (Dependency Injection, JPA, and so on)

Re: Fedora 17 is really bad
Fedora has a very nice community. I read a lot of posts here before deciding to install it. I think it's a good idea to do that. Chances are you will find someone who is kind of like you, asking a question you could see yourself asking. How the community responds and how you feel about that can give you a good idea of whether or not you'll feel comfortable turning to that resource for help.
I developed this theory after first installing Debian, then registering at http://www.forums.debian.net and http://www.debianuserforums.org. If you look at active topics in both, or read a sample of pretty much any question, you will quickly get a sense of whether you'll like it there.
After deciding I didn't fit in there, I read posts at the ubuntu and arch and fedora forums, and of course read a bit about each. You should give something like that a try.

Re: Fedora 17 is really bad
Doesn't work perfectly for me -
1) can't seem to use preupgrade
2) systemd can't seem to be consistent (cant start services sometimes, hard/impossible to get dependencies right)
3) shutdown hanging (likely systemd related, not sure)
4) gnome3 can't seem to work properly (mostly unusable, processes left over after logout, excess processes started...)
5) NetworkManager issues with multiple networks...
Problems I didn't see but others have:
Boot problems in multi-boot environments, occasional shutdown problems, wireless problems, network problems...
If you don't do anything complicated it seems to mostly work.

Re: Fedora 17 is really bad
So, after saying all that, what OS or distro have you decided to use instead of Fedora?
BTW, I'm sure you realize that this Forum is not connected to FedoraProject and the devs won't see anything you've written, so nothing's going to change by complaining here. Then again, that's what the Rants sub-forum is all about : venting ineffectively.
If you want to take the time to post on Bugzilla, explaining the problem(s) in detail, maybe the problems will be corrected in F18.

Re: Fedora 17 is really bad
I decided to stick with Fedora 17 on my laptop and try Ubuntu 12.04 in my office on the 64-bit PC.
I do not know why, but printer drivers was not working nice (documents printed, but without full text) on Fedora 17 and I could not find a solution, while in Ubuntu it is correct. In my office quite often I need to print documents, so I need a stable tool for that.
While the development platform is on my laptop. Yes, Eclipse I installed externally now.
I use Kile for writing documentation and I'm the one who likes minimalism - do not keep software that you do not use. Unfortunately Kile requires KDE apps (it was not so with F16 and earlier), so now I will keep this rubbish in the menu - Konqueror, Konsole etc.
Maybe it is a good idea to post a Bugzilla report for developers too.
