London in October!

The last couple of years I've nipped off to London with a few regular customers for the Great British Beer Festival but this year due to the farce called the olympics being held at the same time it was too expensive to do so (Hotels were charging up to 10 times normal room rate) So, we decided to postpone our beer jaunt till October and just attend a couple of smaller, local festivals and maybe spend a couple of nights at the home of English Bitter. We could also take a gander around the railway museum in York.

Will be headed off on October 1 from Haneda airport of all places to leave from! Check-in is at 04:15 and the flight leaves at 06:25 in the morning! The only thing to do is take a taxi from home or spend the night at a hotel at the airport! Four of us will go together so we can share the cost of the taxi... The fright also gets into Heathrow earlier than the one from Narita so we won't be able to check-in to the hotel! Will leave our bags and go for a pint or three!

Problem is, I can't remember the last time I was in the UK in October so haven't a clue what to take! Is it warm? Is it freezing cold? Will it rain? (Well, that's a given!)

Looking forward to getting out of my cardboard box for a while...

Re: London in October!

I don't know for sure about the climate, but it has been cooler than normal there the past year or so.

But, here is a coin-toss.... errrr.. forecast for October as far as temps go...

October's a terrible month to try to predict - it could be 'thermal undies' weather or 't-shirt and shorts' weather. Forecast is sun, with a spot of monsoon!

Honestly, your best bet is to just pack for everything - that or have a couple of extra pints per session to make sure you get a beer jacket

Re: London in October!

After the summer we have had, the wetest since 1910, then it could anything.

October is normally a light jacket/fleece kind of month, although daytimes can be shorts and a t-shirt, you will need the jacket when you go out in the
London is normally a few degrees water due to all the buildings.

Any plans to get of London and try some of the smaller breweries in other parts of the UK?

Enjoy your trip, had a beery weekend myself. Saturday was carnival day in my hometown of Wem, plastic glasses on that day, but you can walk down the street with your pint

Just to echo trigpoint, this year has been a mess even by recent standards, so expect anything from frost to the high twenties (°C), pouring rain to clear skies... Remember to check the MET office or BBC weather sites just before packing.

Personally I spent the weekend at the Harbury beer festival, one of my favourites.

Re: London in October!

Going by the weather we've had over this side of the country recently I'd suggest shorts and t-shirt - but pack some trousers and a sweater too - and have a fleece and a cheap plastic poncho in a backpack!

Re: London in October!

Have I been missing anything while I was in the pub?

Booked hotels! Well, the London hotel. Need to find somewhere nice, inexpensive and central in York...

Wife and I stayed at the Travelodge in York city centre a few years ago, a clean and modern one. Very central, worth checking prices online, cheaper in advance than on the day.

A friend who does quite a bit of travelling in the UK rates Travelodge highly. Even internet connection, I understand.
