I did a fresh intall of Fedora17 64bit on a dual boot system with vista. The installation was fine. Grub boot menu takes unusally long time to showup. Re installed Fedora 16 64 bit, the grub bootmenu showed up fast.
Probalby grub2 is the culprit after the installation of Fedora17. So tried upgrade from Fedora 16 to 17 without boot configuration update option during the installation. But the grub boot menu now had only the windows entry.
HOW TO SOLVE THE SLOW GRUB2 AFTER INSTALLATION OF FEDORA 17.

With the latest grub-pc update, grub2 takes several minutes to get to the menu. During this time there is almost constant hard drive activity...this did not happen with the last update which would take 5 to 10 seconds at the most.
Found the reason (probables) for delayed show up of Grub menu list. Just before show up of the menu list, the Grub Welcome Screen is flashed for a about a second. The welcome screen had the following message "error file /grub2/locale/en.no.gz not found". Probably this was the cause for intense hdd activity prior to show up of the Grub menu list. Any solutions to solve this are welcome.
Later overcame the error message by forcing grub boot to console. The delay in showup of menu continues.
