FC17 share to XBMCbuntu problem

G'day folks,
I have recently set up a HTPC with XBMCbuntu, I am trying to share a folder
from my Fedora 17 machine with the XBMCbuntu machine, I just can't seem to
make the Shared folder public. I can ping each machine from each other, I also
set up my Android phone as a remote for XBMC.
Does anyone Know how to make the FC17 folder public on the network?

Cheers
The Bandit.

Re: FC17 share to XBMCbuntu problem

Well it seems nobody has any idea
I have been able to share a public folder to the XBMCbuntu HTPC from two Windoze laptops (Samba),
a Mint 13 Eden desktop and an Ubuntu desktop via SMB (cifs I think), yet I am still unable to share a public folder from my Fedora 17 machine.
I have been trying to share via NFS, should I be using SMB instead?
Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers The Bandit.

Re: FC17 share to XBMCbuntu problem

I have a couple folders that I share over the network, but it is a little more cumbersome.

I'm using ssh to share the folder and then use sshfs to mount the folder. It can be made easier using shared keys to log in. If you wanted to make it a little easier, you could use keys to authenticate.

It's not a very good solution for you; I'm using it because I already have ssh set up on all the machines. Have you already looked at the xbmc wiki page on SMB.

Re: FC17 share to XBMCbuntu problem

Thanks for the reply Scottfones,
The link you posted looks detailed enough so I'll give SMB a go
before I get into the ssh mess.
Cheers, The Bandit.
